Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the fact the he was not challenged, hence allowing him to retain the Umno presidency without contest, reflected the maturity of party members.

He said it was more significant with the party constitution having been amended to make it easier for any members to contest the party's top leadership post.

Besides Najib, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also retained the Umno deputy president's post uncontested, as announced after the deadline for members to send in their nomination forms for the Umno election, to be held next month.

"Praise to God, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and I have the solid support from Umno members that there is no challenge and have won without contest," said Najib in his Facebook posting.

Najib said he was also grateful that Umno members had shown a responsible attitude by placing the two top leadership posts as the pillar of the party.

"The solid support of Umno members at all levels will ensure Umno remains relevant," he added.

Najib reminded all candidates to contest in a transparent way and to always respect competition and the party constitution.

"Together we can continue with the legacy of Umno's struggle," said the prime minister.
