Two batik cloth traders claimed trial in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of trafficking six Myanmar nationals last month.

The charge against Aizulanuar Arifin, 44, and Zainuddin Seman, 43, was read before Magistrate Noorhidayah Mohd Saad.

They were alleged to have been involved with the common intention of trafficking six Myanmar nationals, namely Hang Khen Khai, Hau Lai Mung, Kap Pzumt Hang, Khup Sian Sut, Mang Hawm Chin and Sian Deih Tzing.

Both accused from Tanah Merah, Kelantan were alleged to have committed the offence in front of the Kuala Kangsar Toll Plaza at 2.20pm on Feb 3.

They were charged under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term not exceeding 15 years and a fine, or both if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Nazratul Natrah Mohd Yusuf appeared for the prosecution while the two accused were represented by counsel Rafael Abdullah.

The court fixed March 16 for re-mention.
