A man wanted for a double murder in Kovan, Singapore on Wednesday was arrested in Johor Baharu, Johor, last night.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said that the man was detained by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at a restaurant in Danga Bay, around 11.30pm.
The suspect, Iskandar Rahmat, 34, is a senior police officer from the Bedok Police Station but was suspended at the time of the murder of Tan Boon Sin and his son, Tan Chee Heong.
Police said the suspect had entered Malaysia via land route on a motorcycle after committing the double murder.
PDRM will hand over the suspect to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) today.
Hadi said the sufficient details provided by the SPF had contributed towards the arrest of the man by PDRM.
He also said PDRM is ever ready to assist the police force in any neighbouring countries as they do not want any international criminals hiding out in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the SPF commended PDRM for their steadfast support towards handling the case, saying that the arrest was possible due to the close collaboration between the police forces in the two countries.
On Wednesday, the body of Tan Boon Sin, 67, who had owned a car business, was found in the vicinity of Hillside Drive, while that of his son, Chee Heong, 42, was found outside the Kovan MRT.
The SPF had received a call at 4.16pm on Wednesday after Chee Heong’s body was found in front of the station.
Chee Heong's death was initially believed to have been because of a traffic accident.
However, investigations soon revealed that he may had been tied underneath a car and dragged for about one kilometre before his body got untangled from the vehicle.
In a latest development, TODAYonline has revealed that the suspect had arrived at the Police Cantonment Complex in Singapore around 12.15 today.
