Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) has proposed that school cooperatives be given the authority to appoint and manage operators running the school canteens.

Its president, Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah, said by giving the cooperatives this authority their role which is a major aspect of schools, could be further diversified.

"The school management should allow the school cooperative to appoint the rightful person to operate the school canteen.

"I believe the school cooperative will be able to manage the school canteen better because they understand the students' needs and the profits earned can be used by the cooperative and its members," he told reporters after launching a School Cooperative Business Development programme and a briefing on Excellence Award for School Cooperatives (AKKS 2017) at a hotel here today.

Abdul Fattah said to authorise school cooperatives to operate and manage the respective school canteens, the school cooperative by-laws would have to be amended. - BERNAMA
