The police will take action against organisers of the Penang 'Red Rally' which will reportedly be held in the Komtar premises, here Friday.

Northeast District Police chief, ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said so far, police had not been informed about the rally.

"Nobody has applied for a permit to hold the rally and I am warning the public not to attend it. The police will take appropriate action if the rally is held," he said when contacted here today.

Posters on the Penang Red Rally were spread on several blogs and Facebook today, claiming that it was aimed at urging the state government to rescind the ban against the use of loudspeakers in mosques and surau throughout Penang.

The rally was planned to be held tomorrow at Komtar after the Friday prayers, although nobody has admitted to organising it.

The decision to ban the use of loudspeakers outside mosques and surau except for the purpose of azan and iqamah in Penang will be gazetted soon.

This decision was stated in a letter from the Penang State Mufti Department dated Sept 1 after it was decided by the Penang State Fatwa Committee on July 1 and 2, and endorsed by the committee meeting on Aug 23 and 24.

The ban also disallows the use of the loudspeaker for all programmes like qiamullail, tahajjud classes and meetings.
