PAS will go on an all-out campaign to ensure the win of DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in the May 31 Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election.

Its deputy president Mohamad Sabu stressed that the Islamic party will treat Dyana as if she were their own candidate competing in Teluk Intan.

“PAS will work to ensure that our candidate of the rocket symbol wins. That is our promise,” he said at the launch of the Pakatan Rakyat election machinery on Sunday night.

In his speech, Mohamad described Dyana’s age factor as not a problem as many Pakatan Rakyat leaders have been involved in politics at a young age, including himself.

Dyana Sofya, 27, will face Barisan Nasional’s candidate, Datuk Mah Siew Keong who is also the Gerakan president.

Mah had been the Teluk Intan MP for two terms before losing to DAP in the 2008 elections.

Meanwhile, Harakahdaily reported that PAS has elected its vice president, Salahudin Ayub to head the PAS machinery to help in the DAP campaign in the by-election.

In the 13th General Election last year, the DAP candidate, Seah Long Peng, defeated BN’s Mah and independent K. Moralingam with a majority of 7,313 votes.

The by-election was triggered following Seah’s death on May 1 due to cancer.
