The Communications and Multimedia Ministry will help to increase high-speed broadband penetration in all hospitals in the country.

The ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad said the facility was important in the digital age for the convenience of staff and patients in hospitals.

"If we fall behind in this digital era in terms of broadband and its accessibility level, it would be inconvenient for the Health Ministry as well as the patients," she said.

She was speaking to reporters after launching the Kasih Ramadan Programme for the Orang Kota Bharu Association (POKB) by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and Mydin Hypermarket in Pasir Mas Hospital here, Saturday.

The programme, jointly organised with the Kelantan branch of the Malaysian Nurses Association also contributed an iftar meal to all the doctors, nurses and the patients in the hospital.

Sharifah Zarah, who is also the patron of the POKB Cancer Compassion Fund, said the Ministry of Health has made a lot of improvements to various amenities and the latest technology in the health services to the people.

Meanwhile, POKB president Datuk Sheikh Ahmad Dusuki Sheikh Mohamad said the association would adopt policemen who have become physically handicapped while serving the force.

So far 15 police personnel classified as disabled have been adopted and rendered various assistance, he added.

At the event POKB donated four air conditioners worth RM11,000 to the Palliative Care Ward at Pasir Mas Hospital for cancer, stroke and heart patients.
