KUALA LUMPUR: The Mega Prihatin Ehsan Sale Carnival which was held in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration has raked in nearly RM300,000 sales.
Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) group chief executive officer Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the proceeds from the three-day sale carnival that ended today would be returned in the form of subsidy of goods to the people through the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme.
He said this enabled the people to buy essential items such as chickens at RM12 each, egg (RM10 per tray), cooking oil (RM2 per packet), fish (RM8 a packet), fresh beef and bones at RM35 a kilogramme each through the programme.
"The Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme is the initiative of the state government with the co-operation of PKPS to help the people especially the B40 group who are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
He said this to reporters at the Mega Prihatin Ehsan Sale Carnival in Pandan Indah here.
Also present was State Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Modernisation of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim.
Mohamad Khairil said PKPS would also continue the Ehsan on Wheel Sale initiative at identified localities based on discussions with the State Assembly members.
Meanwhile, Azim Ahmad, 32, said the sale carnival enabled him to buy essential goods for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at reasonable prices.
"It is worth it as I have to buy large amounts of fresh produce for Hari Raya since I have a large family.
"The programme is very helpful in my Raya preparation since there is no limit here as I can buy as many chickens as I want cheaply," he said.
Another visitor, Rahmah Zakaria, 44, said such carnivals must be continued to ease the burden of the needy groups especially during the festive season because prices of some essential items have increased.
She said she could save up to almost 50 per cent by buying goods at the carnival which offered cheaper prices compared to those at the markets or supermarkets.
