The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (Mapim) is sending a special envoy on a humanitarian mission to Gaza, Palestine, this Tuesday.

Its president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the team, besides channeling aid to the Palestinians, would also survey the situation in Gaza, as well as identify the actual needs of the residents there.

The team would comprise Mapim strategic director Sani Arabi Abd Halim and a few volunteers, he told a media conference here today.

He said a 'Pray For Gaza' gathering would be held at Dataran Kemanusiaan, Shah Alam, on July 18 and urged the public to attend.

The gathering would start at 3 pm during which there would be prayer for the Palestinians in Gaza, as well as to raise funds, through a charity sale to be held there, he added.

Also present were chairman of the Secretariat for Asia Assembly of Ulama (Shura) Abdul Ghani Shamsudin, deputy chairman of Teras Pengupayaan Melayu (Teras) Wan Ahmad Tarmizi Abdul Aziz, chairman of Persatuan Persaudaraan Muslimah Malaysia (Salimah) Datin Aminah Zakaria and deputy chairman Jaringan Muafakat Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Islam Negeri Perak (Jama'iy) Zulkifli Ibrahim.

They, together with representatives from several other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had a special meeting during which several issues were raised, including for the United nations (UN) to end the atrocities in Gaza.
