Malaysian authorities will investigate the incident involving Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia Ibrahim Ansar and a group of protesters at the KL International Airport on Sunday.

The incident caused minor injuries to the high commissioner.

"The government of Malaysia expresses its sympathies to His Excellency Ibrahim Ansar and gives the assurance that the Malaysian authorities will investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Expressing regret over the incident, it said: "The ministry will continue to work closely with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that similar incidents will not occur in the future."
