The Malaysia Social Media Week (MSMW) 2013, a national event connecting people, content and conversations around emerging trends in social and mobile media, will be held for the second time from Feb 27 to March 3.

Information Department deputy director-general Datuk Poziah A. Rahman said the week-long celebration, themed 'Engage, Educate and Entertain' was scheduled to be held at the Berjaya Times Square.

She said the event was organised by Social Media Chambers (SMC), a non-governmental organisation set up to promote professionalism and ethical usage of social media among users, with support from the information communication and culture ministry.

Speaking to reporters during a briefing on the 2013 MSMW here today, she hoped the event would be more successful than last year's, with the participation of both local and foreign participants and speakers.

Meanwhile, SMC founder and president Shahul Hameed Dawood said the aim of MSMW was to educate the general public on the social media and its ethical usage.

He said the target audience were journalists and online media writers, bloggers, corporate communication managers, university students, information technology specialists, politicians and government agencies.
