KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported a slight decrease with 17,828 new COVID-19 cases registered in the last 24 hours, a drop from 19,105 cases recorded yesterday. The cumulative infections now stands at 4,010,952.

From the  total cases logged, 17,421 cases involved local infections while 407 were imported cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement, 17,672 cases (99.12%) were categories one and two, while 156 cases (0.88%) were categories 3, 4 and 5.

Dr Noor Hisham said total of 358 patients were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with 199 of them requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, 28,003 recoveries were also reported. 

There were two new clusters identified yesterday, with 292 clusters still active.

According to the data recorded by the Ministry of Health, the number of people who died of the coronavirus also showed a slight drop to 63 compared to the 71 recorded the day before.

From the total of deaths reported, 21 people were classified as Brought-In-Dead (BID).

As of today, Malaysia has lost a total 34,463 people to the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
