One of the two Malaysians who are still unaccounted for in Amenas is feared dead.

In a statement this morning, Foreign Affairs minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the Malaysian Embassy in Algiers was informed by the representative from JGC Construction Pte. Ltd, that there is a worrying possibility that one of the two Malaysians who are still unaccounted for is dead whilst the fate of the other Malaysian in still unknown.

"The Malaysian Embassy will exert all efforts to work closely with the Algerian authorities and JGC Construction to verify further on the latest news concerning the two Malaysians," Anifah said in the statement.

According to Anifah, the three Malaysians who were identified as safe have been transferred from the Amenas Facility Complex to Algiers.

“The officials from the Embassy of Malaysia in Algiers had met with them and currently necessary arrangement is being made to bring them back to Malaysia."

Anifah said the ministry had notified the family of the three Malaysians about their condition.
