SUNGKAI:Three, including a couple, were killed in an accident involving two vehicles, when the car they were riding in collided  at Kilometer 88, Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur near Sungkai on Sunday.

The dead were identified as Muhammad Ridhwan Ismail, 22, who was driving a Perodua Myvi and Mohamed Tahir Junus, 64, and his wife Nor Aini Mohd Sam, 54, who were riding in a Proton Saga.

According to Tapah District Police Chief, Superintendent Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, the accident happened while the driver of the Perodua Myvi, Muhammad Ridhwan was on his way from Subang Jaya, Selangor to Teluk Intan, Perak.

"Upon reaching the scene of the accident, the victim was suspected to have lost control and entered the opposite lane and collided head on with the Proton Saga.

"As a result of the accident, the driver of the Perodua Myvi was pronounced dead on the way to Slim River Hospital while the couple who were riding in the Proton Saga died at the scene of the accident," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the cause of death was still under investigation and was awaiting a post-mortem report.

Wan Azharuddin said the victim's next of kin had been informed of the accident and the case was classified under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
