The grandfather of Nureen Ain Juwita Mohd Sharif, who drowned at a disused bauxite mining pond said he will sue bauxite miners for negligence after several children drowned in an incident on Saturday.

Aidil Omar, 78, said the responsible party should take safety aspect seriously of the residents in the area by closing the bauxite pit which led to the untimely death of three innocent souls.

Aidil is understandably distraught as he claimed that he was close to the granddaughter.

“I want to sue the party, responsible in bauxite mining here. I am lost for words, she was really close to me. She would come to play at my house everyday.

“The responsible party must view this problem seriously as mining is done close to the residents’ houses. I will seek advice on how to go about the legal procedure,” said Aidil, when met after the burial of Nureen Ain at Sungai Karang Darat Muslim burial ground here today.

In the 5pm incident on Saturday, Nureen Ain was drowned together with her friends, Salsabila Zuhairi, Mahathir Mohamad, seven after they visited the pond to play for the first time
