A five-month old girl died at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here, Tuesday afternoon, after she was believed to have been abused.

Kuala Muda District Police chief, ACP Khalil Arifin said the infant was unconscious when she was taken by her parents to the hospital and was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

He said the parents claimed that the infant became unconscious when she fell off a chair or bed after being pulled by another sibling, aged two.

He said an inspection by the hospital found the baby's head was swollen and there were bruises on her body.

"The infant's body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar for a post-mortem," he said when contacted here, on Tuesday.

To date, he said no arrests were made until the report of the post-mortem was known.
