The father of a Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight attendant is pleased to learn of his daughter’s kind gesture to feed an elderly passenger. The photo of flight attendant Syarifah Firnaz Al-Yahya immediately went viral on social media websites.

"My friend sent the photo through Facebook and asked ‘Is that your daughter?’ but I said it’s an old photo. It was taken two years ago. I even watched in on Astro AWANI.

"But I was sad when some people say that it’s just an act. However, I am forever proud of her,” said Syed Farieh Hassan when contacted by Astro AWANI.

Syed Farieh, who served as a steward for the same airline from 1974, admitted that Malaysia Airlines provides the best hospitality.

"MAS is definitely the best. I say this not because I used to work for the airline and not because my daughter is now a stewardess. During training, they always emphasised on safety. The airline has also won the Skytrax Best Cabin Crew for several years,” he said.

Syed Farieh also said that the fact that the senior citizen sat in Economy Class shows MAS' dedication to all of its passengers.

Best service

"I'm not surprised if this happened in First or Business Class. They definitely will provide good service but Malaysia Airlines' Economy Class really got ‘class’,” he added.

Asked about her personality, he said that Syarifah Firnaz is always friendly, not just at work but also with family members.

"She is always taking care of her grandmother, who is my mother. She would immediately go to her grandmother’s room after coming back from work. She often helps her mother and she has three nephews. She is always friendly.”

After the loss of flight MH370, he is slightly worried about her career which requires her to fly to various destinations all over the world.

"I also went through a sad period where my colleague was on duty on board flight MH653 which crashed in Tanjung Kupang. However, any airline would prioritise safety.

"Death can happen at anytime, anywhere. We just have to pray. I will support her no matter what,” he added.

Syed Farieh is now retired but occasionally works as a tourist guide where he will travel at least 12 to 13 times a year.

"I've never boarded a plane when my daughter is on duty. Perhaps it’s because of our conflicting schedules. She often asked me to follow her. Maybe one day I will,” he concluded.
