No COVID-19 local transmissions involving Malaysians were reported today, only the second time this has occurred after the first on June 9, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He said up to noon today, 15 new cases of infection were recorded, taking the nation's COVID-19 tally to 8,587 cases.

Of the 15, two were imported cases involving Malaysians who were infected abroad, while all 13 local transmissions involved non-Malaysians.

"As such, the number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 289. They have been isolated and given treatment," he said at the COVID-19 media briefing here today.

Dr Noor Hisham said another 21 patients have recovered and were discharged today, which takes the number of recoveries to 8,177 cases or 95.2 percent of the case tally.
