KUALA LUMPUR:A total of 3,680 new COVID-19 infections were reported on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 191,114.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said out of the total, there were six import cases that were reported to have received infection from abroad while the rest were local cases.

"There are now 42,389 cases of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity," he said in a media statement on Wednesday.

Within 24 hours, Dr Noor Hisham said there has been an increase of seven casualties, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 707.

Commenting on the spread by state, he said, Johor has recorded the highest increase in daily cases with 1,069, followed by Selangor (822 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (698 cases).

So far, Dr Noor Hisham said, a total of 314 cases are receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 122 of which requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the number of recovery cases continued to record an increase of 1,858, bringing the cumulative number of cases recovered to 151,018.
