The Malaysian couple held in Sweden has not been charged, so far.

Astro Awani however has been informed that remand order against the couple has been extended for another two weeks while prosecution gather evidence in relation to the case. The couple, may however, be set free should police fail to collect evidence in order for them to be charged.

The couple, Azizul Raheem Awalludin and his wife, Shalwati Nurshal has been detained since December 18 for allegedly abusing their son for not performing his prayers.

Azizul Raheem Awalludin, is an employee with Tourism Malaysia in Stockholm, and his wife Shalwati Nurshal, is a secondary school teacher.

Sweden practices a law which prohibits parents from hitting, hurting or embarrassing their children. Enforced in over 30 countries including Sweden since 1979, the law prohibits a child from being physically punished.
