It is costly to sing in a group during the enforcement of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) as 15 individuals found out at a karaoke centre in Jalan Putra here last night.

All of them who were detained by a team from the D7 unit of Kedah Police Contingent headquarters for violation of the CMCO were issued compounds of RM1,000 each.

Head of Kedah Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner Sapii Ahmad said during the raid, 14 of them were believed to be customers at the premises.

Another individual, believed to be the guard of the premises, was also detained to assist in the investigation.

According to Sapii, the premises were locked from the outside and only operated for certain customers to avoid detection by the authorities.

He said all those detained were in their 20s and 30s.

Investigations revealed that two of the customers had been arrested for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) previously.

All of them were then taken to the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action.

Urine tests found 11 of them positive for drugs.

Police also seized karaoke set equipment at the scene of the raid.

All detainees failed to provide a reasonable explanation for the purpose of participating in the social activity and were found to be in violation of regulation 7 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.
