The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNKK) confirmed that chicken sold in several places in the state including a supermarket in Dungun at a cheaper price were imported from China and had halal certification.

State Rural Development, Entrepreneurial, Cooperative and Consumerism Committee chairman Roslee Daud said the matter was now resolved and it is up to consumers to make a choice whether to buy these chicken or local chicken with fixed control price.

"Of course we have received complaints from consumers who are skeptical about chicken being sold cheaper because they are worried about the halal status and its safety level when cooked.

"Imagine the retail price of processed chicken set by the ministry at RM7.30 and the wholesale prices is RM6.60 per kg, but some traders are selling chicken at RM4 to RM4.50 per kg.

"In terms of regulation, these traders have no problem because if imported from China maybe the price of the chicken is low. But at the same time we will continue to monitor this matter," he said.

Earlier, he officially launched the Christmas Festive Season Price Control Scheme 2015 at a supermarket here today.

The items listed under the price control scheme are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, local goat meat boned, imported boned-lamb meat, imported boneless lamb, imported boned-lamb thighs, grade A,B,C chicken eggs, tomatoes and green capsicum.

"Each of the price controlled items will have pink price tags from today until Dec 27," he said.
