PUTRAJAYA: Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin, has stressed that he will continue to focus on his duties in the government as long as UMNO has not made any decision on the resignation of ministers from the party.

The Rembau Member of Parliament said all UMNO leaders were still bound by the party's stand and decision.

“Our stance is tied to the decision of the party (UMNO). As long as the party does not make any decision, so we focus on the task to the government.

"That is why we hope the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) makes a wise and sensible decision," he explained when met in Putrajaya today.

Earlier, Khairy suggested that the party's election be expedited in an effort to resolve UMNO's internal crisis.
He stressed that the UMNO election should not be postponed to after the general election, instead it should be done this year as well.

Earlier, UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in his closing speech in conjunction with the 2020 UMNO General Assembly (PAU2020) said the MKT had received a mandate to determine a suitable date for all key government office holders from UMNO to resign.

He explained that the mandate will be used to ensure that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin dissolves Parliament according to the appropriate date.
