A bus carrying 31 students from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) skidded and landed on its side at the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) about 9.45am on Sunday.

The incident confirmed by IIUM on its Twitter page also stated that four students had been seriously injured.


Kuala Lumpur Fire Department Senior Assistant Superintendent M. Letchumanan said the passengers had been sent to the Sungai Buluh Hospital for treatment.

"The victims were 31 people, 17 men and 14 women. They managed to come out from the bus and some were seriously injured while others escaped with minor injuries.

"Rescue operations ended at 10:36am and all the victims have been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital," he said.

It was learnt that the bus was heading towards Bukit Cherakah, Shah Alam.

Photos of the accident spread like wildfire on social media websites, with many praying for the students' safety.
