The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) is back urging for clean elections, clean governance, saving the economy and preserving the right to dissent.

“The supporters of Bersih 2.0 should join together to pressure the administration of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak which needs to undergo a reformation in order to combat corruption and abuse of power,” it said in a statement today.

The Bersih 2.0 committee chaired by Maria Chin Abdullah also urged for action to be taken to restore public confidence into the probe involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“To restore public confidence into the probe, we want Najib to reveal his bank account detail, to take leave during the duration of the investigation, to freeze Najib’s accounts including his spouse and children and to reveal the 1MDB investigation result to the public as soon as possible,”said Maria Chin.

The statement among others also stated their doubt about the termination of service of Attorney-General tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail which they fear was not done in accordance to the Federal Constitution.

Apart from that, the appointment of four Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members had also raised questions.

“The acceptance of executive appointments by Nur Jazlan and his three colleagues is a betrayal of the public trust on PAC to act on 1MDB,” said the statement.

Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed who acts as the PAC Chairman was elected as Deputy Home Minister on Tuesday as part of Najib’s new Cabinet line up. Three others are Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (as Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (as Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister) and Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau (as Science, Technology and Innovation Minister).

“The Prime Minister and the Deputy hold the two most powerful portfolio which is the Finance Minister and Home Minister reduces the hopes for an independent investigation,” stated the statement.

In its quest for just and clean elections and governance, Bersih 2.0 also announced its Bersih 4 rally which may be held in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu from August 29th to August 30th.
