Bakar Arang in Sungai Petani recorded the highest unhealthy air pollutant index (API) of 100 as at 8 am Friday.

According to the Environment Department, 32 areas recorded moderate API readings including Seberang Jaya 2 in Perai (99), Jalan Tasek in Ipoh (89), Alor Setar and Universiti Sains Malaysia Penang (87) and Perai in Penang (85).

Other areas that recorded moderate readings are Kg. Air Putih in Taiping(78), Kangar (73) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Pegoh, Ipoh (70).

An API reading of between zero and 50 indicates good air quality; between 51 and 100, moderate; between 101 and 200, unhealthy; between 201 and 300, very unhealthy and over 301, hazardous.
