Twenty Insaniah University College (Kuin) students, including 18 women, who went missing while jungle-trekking on Gunung Jerai were found safe by a search and rescue party on Sunday night.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department despatched 19 firemen to Gunung Jerai after it was alerted about a group of Kuin students stranded in the jungle at 6.24pm.

The firemen reached the area at about 7pm and started scaling the mountain at 9pm and found the students one hour later, he told reporters here last night.

He said the students started scaling the mountain at 10am on Saturday.

Policemen, Civil Defence Department personnel and jungle rangers also took part in the search and rescue operation.
