Malaysia strongly condemned the missile attacks on Makkah and hoped that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman in a statement today described the attacks launched by the Houthis of Yemen, as an utter disrespect to the sanctity of the holy land.

"Makkah is the holiest and most sacred place for all Muslims. The acts of aggression are clearly an utter disrespect of the sanctity of the holy site. It is deplorable and contrary to Islamic teachings and principles.

"We must remain united and not allow such attacks on Islam's holy sites to ever happen again," he said in a statement at the Council of Foreign Ministers' Emergency Session here, Thursday.

The meeting was held to discuss the missile attacks launched by the Houthis of Yemen against Saudi Arabia on Oct 9 and 27, 2016.

The meeting will also formally endorse the appointment of Dr Yusuf Ahmed Al-Othaimeen as the new Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary-general.

Tan Sri Iyad Ameen Madani resigned as the secretary-general on Oct 31 for health reasons.
