Two Malayalam films on violence against women have been exempted from entertainment tax by the government of southern Indian state Kerala as part of a campaign to create public awareness on crimes against women and children.

The recently released movies are 'Lisammayute Veedu' and 'Ente' and official sources said these were exempted from tax to give a strong message against sexual exploitation, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

'Lisammayute Veedu' tells the story of a woman who suffers a series of sexual assault as a teenager and the stigma that continues several years after the incidents.

'Ente' is about social issues concerning the insecurity and threat faced by girls in their family and society in the backdrop of a story about a father and daughter.

'Ente' was produced by Suntech Production along with Hyderabad-based social outfit Projwala which works for the rehabilitation of sexually exploited children and rape victims.

Sunitha Krishnan, activist and founder of Projwala, said the movie would help sensitise society against sexual crimes and create awareness about steps that can be taken to stop such acts.
