The Kedah state government does not see the RM60 million deficit in its 2015 Budget tabled on Monday as a problem.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said the deficit was the largest in the financial history of Kedah but it was planned to ensure state money was spent for the people in education, welfare and entrepreneurship.

He said the 2015 Budget was for the long term and the state government did not draft the budget for only one year.

"This is the approach we have taken. Often we see the budget as an annual plan and not much is projected for the next 10 and 20 years to come, to ensure a brighter future for all.

"The budget is aimed at resolving problems arising from short term planning. We need to look ahead to overcome some perennial problems," he said when winding up debate on the 2015 Supply Bill at the State.
