Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek has assured that there is enough supply of fish in the market.

He said consumers needed not worry as the ministry would always ensure sufficient supply of fish.

"Besides that, the price of fish now is rather stable and there has been no drastic increase. If there is such an increase, the authority responsible should investigate to see whether it is caused by middlemen," he told reporters after visiting the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market, early today.

Also present were Malaysia Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) chairman Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim and Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA) chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin.

"Overall, I am happy with the price of fish and vegetables at this wholesale market after meeting with the traders here and listening to the briefing given by a representative of the National Fishermen's Association in ensuring sufficient supply," said Ahmad Shabery.

He said imported fish also helped to stabilise the price of local fish as the price was lower and for now, the ministry had no intention to control the amount of fish imported and exported.

He added that the ministry would also ensure sufficient supply of foodstuff for the Chinese New Year.
