Amidst a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has ruled out a nationwide lockdown for now and warned that it could cause societal and economic collapse.  

Malaysia has reported 691 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours up to noon today, breaking a record high that was set just yesterday.

Following the new infections reported today, the country now has 2,936 Covid-19 patients under treatment, the worst level since the pandemic started in Malaysia in January.

#KiniNews: SPM postponed to 2021, UPSR and PT3 cancelled

The Education Ministry today announced that Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) are cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin at a press conference in Putrajaya also said all secondary school examinations will be postponed to next year.

Radzi said the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) will be postponed to the first quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, Malaysia reported the lowest number of new Covid-19 cases in a day since the movement control order (MCO) began with 85 new infections.

#KiniNews: M'sia may have flattened the curve, says Health DG

Malaysia may have flattened the Covid-19 infection curve thanks to the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

However, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the government is still working to reduce the number of new infections.

Malaysia today reported 168 recoveries and 134 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24-hours. This puts the total number of cases at 4,817, with a slight reduction in active cases to 2,464. This means, over 47% of Covid-19 patients have recovered to date.
