KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered a total of 1,518 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Wednesday, taking the national total to 4,518,965.

Based on the data released on the COVIDNOW portal, only one out of the total was an imported case, while the rest of 1,517 were local transmissions.

A total of 6 deaths were recorded, with 3 classified as being brought in dead, raising the death toll to 35,705 since the pandemic started. 

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH) a total of 1,125 new recoveries were reported, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,461,671.

Currently, there are 21,589 active cases, with 26 being held in intensive care and 14 of those in need of assisted breathing.

As of yesterday, Malaysia has administered 5,718 COVID-19 vaccine doses under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.

Meanwhile, about 85.7 per cent of the population have received at least one dose, 83 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.3 per cent have received boosters.
