KPDN has set a target for the country's franchise industry to grow between 20 and 30 pct this year, driven by the encouraging prospects of the sector.

The government is encouraging more parties to venture into the franchise industry as it foresees the industry's great potential, said Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Ismail Sabri noted that the local franchise industry has been growing rapidly, with 1,149 franchisers registered under the Franchise Act.

The franchise industry has grown well in Malaysia, with 614 local franchisors, 68 master franchisees and 408 foreign franchisors being registered under the Franchise Act 1998.

Ismail Sabri said concerted efforts from various agencies and industry players were needed to revitalise the franchise industry momentum in the next five years.

Malaysia's franchise industry has achieved significant progress, being one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country, said MATRADE.

The National Franchise Development Master Plan (PIPFN) 2021-2025, which is currently being developed, will be able to boost local and overseas franchise businesses as well as increasing franchise sale

The franchise industry contributed significantly to the national economy, accounting for 3.4 percent or RM26.8 billion of GDP last year.

This is to strengthen Malaysia's foothold in China by capitalising on Malaysian capabilities in the services sector.
