Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hopes that unity in performing the fast during Ramadan could be applied to strengthen ties with God as well as the people.

"We have now gone through the second day of fasting. Ramadan unites us through one common religious act and we should apply this unity in strengthening our bond with Allah, to foster better ties with family members and society," said the prime minister in his latest Facebook posting.

Earlier, in his message in conjunction with Ramadan, Najib called upon Muslims to use Ramadan to foster the spirit of unity with other Muslims.

The prime minister said there should be commitment among Muslims to make Malaysia a modern Muslim country which was progressive and developed.

In a related development, Najib said the government had fixed the ceiling price of controlled items through the Price Control Scheme for the 2014 Aidilfitri festivity which would take effect from July 20 to Aug 5.

However, in the spirit of Ramadan, traders have been urged to sell the controlled items below the ceiling price, he said.
