There are many things that I wish I could have changed in my life.
We generally wish to be smarter, wealthier, good looking, fitter and have better relationships. Social media, for one, has made it possible for us to ‘pry’ into the otherwise private lives of the rich and famous. With every double tap — ‘liking’ of the seemingly ideal lives of the ‘perfect beings’, a pang of envy follows.
If I were to hold on to a particular thought along the lines of “I wish I were…” or “if only I am…” instead of taking proactive actions, I would have held myself back from creating and welcoming new possibilities.
We are not perfect, but that is okay.
Often enough, we are so fixated on individuals who are smart, wealthy, successful that we do not realise the many untold stories of the hard work they have put in before they make a name in the respective industries.
The best in the fields are remarkable because they recognise that reaching a peak does not signify that it is a be-all and end-all in the path to become better.
To be smarter, engage with more quality content and be more in tuned with the world. To be fitter, start looking into what we consume on a daily basis and take up a workout regime that we will enjoy. To have better relationships, start by having a great relationship with ourselves. To join the ranks of the wealthy, well… as much as we hate to hear it, there is no one fool-proof way to success and the accumulation of wealth. There are too many factors at play that will determine the success and failure of a venture. I believe that when we aspire to be the best version of ourselves, success follows.
Some might argue that these take too much work.
I say, find out what works best for you, take time to discover what makes you tick. You definitely worth the time and effort, don't you think?
We will never know how the future may play out. However the decisions we make today will no doubt play an integral role as to what our future may hold. You reap what you sow.
Quoting American poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, “this world is but a canvas to our imagination.” We can do so much more as long as we let our creativity and imagination take flight.
