Kuala Lumpur has been named world’s 15 most affordable cities in the world for hotel and lodging rental website, Airbnb.

In a media release by GoEuro.com issued yesterday, it stated that Kuala Lumpur is ranked 14 for most affordable overall in 2014 Accomodation Price Index.

This is part of the travel price index series where impartial accommodation price index covering 150 cities and over 60,000 properties worldwide were collected by GoEuro.com to have deepening understanding of the implications of new trends in the fast growing hotel industry.

Tirana, Albania is named the most affordable city and New York triumphs as the most expensive haven.

Accommodation is the number one expense for both business and leisure travelers, topping the price of transport by 25 per cent and dining by 40 per cent.

The findings implicate the rising popularity of Airbnb and continued growth of the hostel industry as important factors for travellers when considering where to spend the night where in the last 10 years the hospitality industry has evolved significantly.

Today, the new sharing economy is increasing the diversity of the accommodation industry and hotel alternatives like hostels which were increasingly embraced by millennials.
