Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that an Olympic-size swimming pool would be built in Tawau to meet the needs of swimming enthusiasts in the district and Sabah in general.

“My ministry will come up with the cost estimates and design," he told reporters after opening the National Sports Institute's Tawau satellite centre at the Tawau Indoors Sports Complex here Sunday.

Also present was Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.

On the satellite centre, Khairy said it was the 16th in the country and the third in Sabah.

He added that his ministry was looking into setting up more such satellite centres in Sabah and Sarawak.

The centres serve to support local sportsmen and sportwomen in striving for greatness.
