Novak Djokovic stayed on course to win yet another title by outclassing Jack Sock to reach the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup on Thursday.

The world number one, playing his first tournament since winning Wimbledon last month, needed only 54 minutes to see off Sock 6-2 6-1 at the hard-court event in Montreal.

Top seed Djokovic made only 10 unforced errors and allowed Sock just one break point – which the American failed to win – as he coasted into the last eight with a ruthless display on Court Central.

Djokovic broke four times as Sock was unable to contain the classy Serb, who will attempt to win his third grand slam of the year at the US Open next month.

Either Ernests Gulbis or Donald Young will face the daunting task of attempting to deny Djokovic a place in the semi-final.
