UBON RATCHATHANI (Thailand): National taekwondo exponent Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim contributed the 35th gold medal to the Malaysian contingent competing in the ASEAN University Games (AUG), here today after winning the women's individual Poomsae event.

Nurul amassed 8.383 points to defeat Thunsinee Mookda of Thailand who managed 8.350 points in the event held at the Ban Yang Noi campus while Indonesia's Ruhil Masri took the bronze with 8.049 points.

"I was a little nervous because I was the first competitor to perform but I am delighted to have won the country's first ever gold medal in taekwondo.

The gold was a long-awaited one for the Malaysian contingent because the 34th gold medal was won on Sunday and Monday was a dry day.

In the men's individual Poomsae event, Jason Loo Jun Wei added a silver medal to the medal haul.

Jason Loo who is also the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games silver medallist, registered 8.116 points behind favourite Worapol Sianglio from the host nation who had (8.233).
