Datuk Lee Chong Wei displayed impressive performance at the Sudirman Cup badminton championship even though Malaysia lost to South Korea in the quarter-final, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said Chong Wei, who is now ranked 46th, was seen to be in his best element as he managed to defeat 4th-ranked Srikanth Kidambi from India and 5th-ranked Son Wan Ho of South Korea.

"Chong Wei seems to be in top form and he is still the man to beat. I'm confident that he will qualify to the Rio Olympics in 2016," he told reporters after the launch of Malaysia Youth Policy by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here today.

The Sudirman Cup is Chong Wei's first tournament after being suspended due to an apparent anti-doping regulation violation last August.

At the Sudirman Cup tournament in Dongguan, China, Malaysia defeated South Korea (3-2) and India (3-2) in group match, but was shown the exit after losing 3-1 to South Korea at the quarter-final.
