Supporters of UMNO deputy president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and Kedah chief minister, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is said to have arrived in Kuala Lumpur since Tuesday to express support for their leaders during the ongoing UMNO Supreme Council meeting.

Astro AWANI’s visit to the place found that most of the supporters have been staying at budget hotels around the vicinity of PWTC solely to be with other supporters before assembling at Menara Dato Onn.

One of Muhyiddin’s supporter who wished to be identified only as Salim said, he and his friends boarded a bus all the way from Pagoh to rally support for their leaders.

"I came all the way, after hearing talks that Muhyiddin may be dismissed. I hope they are not true.

"He's no longer the Deputy Prime Minister, why should he be stripped off his deputy president title?" said Salim to Astro AWANI.

Earlier, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Wanita UMNO chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said there would be no termination today and even conceded that they were merely rumours and such a notion was not discussed.

Salim added, concerns about Muhyiddin’s dismissal began ever since he was dropped from the Cabinet.

"I wondered would he be punished again.

"UMNO should recognize his services over the years for the party. He is also an iconic leader of Johor," he said.

Earlier, about 200 supporters of Muhyiddin, Shafie and Mukhriz gathered in front of Menara Dato Onn to express their support for their leaders before the meeting commenced.

The meeting is expected to end around 7pm.
