Selangor UMNO will submit its list of candidates for the 14th general election (GE14) in advance to ensure these candidates are truly accepted by the people.

Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said the move was the outcome of a post-mortem for last month's Sungai Besar Parliamentary by-election.

He said the strategy adopted in the by-election would also be enhanced to be used again to wrest back Selangor in the coming GE14.

"In the by-election post-mortem, we also identified our advantages and weaknesses, this initial candidates' list is made so that any weaknesses from any quarters can be rectified and improved," he told reporters after chairing the Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee meeting here Sunday.

Asked if Selangor UMNO would field more young candidates in the GE14, Noh said his focus would be on the people's acceptance of the candidates.

"To me, the age of the candidate is not a yardstick because what matters is the extent to which the candidate is accepted by the people and I am confident of the formula of the UMNO leadership to determine the list of candidates," he said.

At the meeting, Noh, who was appointed as Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister last Monday, also received an application form from the 80s era dangdut singer, Herman Tino to rejoin UMNO after his membership was cancelled for being an Independent candidate in the GE13.

"I give my full support to this application and I hope that Herman Tino's re-admission into UMNO will attract more people to support the party," he said.

In the last GE13, Herman Tino challenged Noh as an Independent candidate in the Tanjong Karang Parliamentary seat but was defeated.
