About 300 members from 23 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) along with the heads of Wangsa Maju UMNO branches on Saturday expressed their support for the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Their declaration supporting the leadership of the prime minister said the prime minister's post was an institution democratically elected through the general electoral process, and that it should be respected.

Wangsa Maju Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association chairman Rashid Abu Samah, who represented the group, condemned and strongly protested against the actions of former prime minister and former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for collaborating with DAP president Lim Kit Siang.

"The opposition, especially DAP, has launched various attacks, accusations and slander with the intention of causing hatred among the people to enable them to rule the country.

"Therefore, we NGOs and the heads of branches in the Wangsa Maju constituency today condemn and strongly protest against the actions of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who under the name of people, formed what they call as the Mahathir Declaration," he said during the declaration to support the leadership of the Prime Minister in Wangsa Maju, on Saturday.

Rashid said the group also expressed their stand to continue standing behind the Prime Minister's leadership to win the 14th General Election.

They also urged the UMNO Supreme Council to immediately hold discussions for action to be taken against former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.

"We object to any motion by branch heads in Malaysia who claim to have the support of the majority of UMNO leaders throughout the country to topple the prime minister, when members of GKCM (an anti-Najib movement), which is masterminded by Tun Mahathir are only a handful compared to the large majority of UMNO branch chiefs who still support Datuk Seri Najib Razak," he said.
