Tan Sri Noh Omar said his appointment as Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government is a trust to champion the urban poor.

"Alhamdulillah, Selangor UMNO will continue to move forward. The new responsibility is not to be proud of as I used to be a minister," he said in a statement today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced Noh's return as minister at a special press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noh replaced Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan who was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU).

The Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman and Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman expressed gratitude to his friends, UMNO and BN leaders for the support and cooperation.

Noh said without working as a team, he would not be successful in leading the Selangor BN to victory in Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election recently.

"With the support and cooperation, Selangor BN will be able to achieve more success. My goal is to capture Selangor in the 14th general election," said the Tanjong Karang MP.

Meanwhile, Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said Noh's appointment was recognition of the Selangor UMNO leadership and raise the image of Selangor BN.

"We have high hopes in Tan Sri Noh as a Cabinet minister as it will draw t voters and ensure that BN continue to remain relevant," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Selangor UMNO secretary Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said the appointment of Noh is a golden opportunity that should not be wasted by Selangor UMNO members.

"We have not had a minister for a long time. Selangor UMNO must return the the trust given by working hard," he added.

Selangor UMNo Youth chief Zainuri Zainal described Noh's appointment as a gift after Bn won Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election on June 18.

He said the appointment was not only recognition of Noh's ability but also the entire Selangor UMNO leadership and machinery.
