MIC accepted the proposal that seat distribution among the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in the 14th general election (GE14) is made by giving priority to the aspects of winnable candidates well-liked by the people.

As such, MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said MIC would look for quality and capable candidates to ensure the victory of BN.

"We adhere to the principle that whatever decision is made by the BN is based on consensus, including matters related to seat distribution in the coming general election," he told reporters after the Indian Community Blueprint Dialogue programme here Sunday.

BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have said that BN candidates for the GE14 are expected to no longer be based on party quota but priority is given to winnable candidates who are favoured by the voters in the constituency concerned.

Dr Subramaniam said MIC would cooperate with BN to select and ensure that candidates from his party meet the criteria. -- Bernama
