Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's offer of land to expand the Penang International Airport (PIA) is proof the state government has no long term development plan.

In stating this, Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Teng Chang Yeow also questioned why Lim wanted to speak about expanding PIA after six years (in power).

"After Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir spoke about wanting to build a new airport in Kulim, Kedah, Lim suddenly talks about expanding the PIA.

"Actually, the proposal to expand PIA, specifically to expand its runway had been made during BN's rule but its implementation was only made in 2009.

"However, only the terminal area was expanded due to lack of funds," he said after the opening of the 2014 People's Progressive Party (PPP) convention by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor here today.

He said this when asked to comment on Lim's statement that the Kedah Government's plan to build a second airport was not economically viable.

On June 12, Mukhriz had said Kedah was set to have a new international airport on a 600ha land which would boost economic growth in the northern region.

The proposal had also been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he said.

Meanwhile, in another development Teng said the state BN would hold dialogue sessions with media practioners to explain the Goods and Services Tax.
