(MIC members gathered in front of the MIC HQ, Thursday - Astro AWANI)

Disgruntled MIC members today gathered in front of the party's headquarters here today, demanding that the party adheres to the Registarar of Societies (RoS) orders to hold re-election.

The group also want the party to halt its central working committee (CWC) meeting scheduled today, accusing the office-bearers to have been elected 'illegally'.

The group, led by former youth leader Datuk T. Mohan and several party members had earlier promised to gather at least 3,000 party members to join the protest.

“Dear friends, whether the CWC meeting is cancelled or not, our protest will continue. It is to fight for our rights. Please join us at the MIC HQ at 1pm. Please bring our supporters together to voice out.”

The RoS has ordered MIC to hold fresh elections for the party's 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) members and the post of three vice-presidents within 90 days, following alleged irregularities and breach of the party's constitution and Societies Act.

The party's emergency CWC meeting today is to decide if the party should hold fresh elections.
