The Bukit Gelugor by-election has been among the most peaceful by-elections, said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

He said with 12 days of campaigning so far, the situation had been rather calm and no serious infractions reported.

"We received not more than 15 complaints and four investigation papers were opened but these were minor cases," he told a press conference after receiving a briefing on the by-election from Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi here Friday.

He added that even though police expected the by-election to run smoothly this Sunday (May 25), they would be out in full force to ensure there were no untoward incidents.

The by-election sees a four-cornered fight between DAP candidate Ramkarpal Singh, Vice President of Parti Cinta Malaysia Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and two independent candidates, Mohd Nabi Bux Mohd Abdul Sathar and Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad Zan.
