Delegates to the UMNO General Assembly are mature and capable of expressing their views or protests in a courteous manner, said party permanent chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruddin.

He said his experience of 47 years with UMNO found that the party members were always taught to deliver their views or protests prudently.

As such, he was confident that the UMNO general assembly this time would proceed smoothly although the party was facing various challenges, he said after an interview by Bernama Radio24, here today.

"Insha Allah (God willing) the UMNO delegates are mature because those (delegates) coming have been chosen at the grassroots level to represent their respective division. It is called a conference which means that they (delegates) come to confer, not look for trouble.

"We practise democracy, for example our president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) won uncontested, it means his election was solid, the same thing goes for the other posts in our party," he said.

Badruddin said the criticisms made must be courteous according to Islamic teachings which prohibit its followers to insult or shame the others even if they did not share the same views or stand.

"I believe UMNO members will adhere to party rules, so we leave it to Allah so that the assembly gets his blessings and we hope that the delegates can go back with a good decision for the party and nation," he said.

The UMNO General Assembly 2015 is scheduled to be held from Dec 8 to 12, beginning with the official opening of the general assemblies of the three party wings, namely the Wanita, Youth and Puteri movements, and followed by the official opening of the UMNO General Assembly on Dec 10.
